Black Palm Beatles are killing selective
trees throughout Florida. Mine is an example
of what is TO LATE.
Protect your Christmas Tree Palms / Adonidia The Cooperative extension service offered advise on applying Liquid Seven directly in the crown top of the tree, as the label implies. With repeat applications every 7 days. My first indication of a problem was when I noticed more than 1 palm fron turning brown at the same time. With in 3-4 weeks my tree was beyond saving. The grey portion or trunk of the tree had an appearance of sap dripping down the tree. This was caused by the larva inside the tree eating their way out. A form of girdling. I hosed the trunk off and waited and watched. There where literally tiny holes in my tree with sap dripping out. The palm weevil is about a 1/2 inch long. It makes it's way to the crown, lays it's eggs and this is where the trouble begins. Once the eggs hatch the larva- like a worm begins to chew it's way to adulthood, slowly killing your prized specimen. Eventually working it's way to the outside of the tree to become a VEEVIL. Take this as a precaution and spray your trees. Just on my street alone there are 3 that have been killed. The strange thing is the insects didn't kill both of my trees in the Clump- lucky my I guess. Shannon Huet
